One Way Bearings

A one-way bearing, also known as a freewheel or overrunning clutch, is a type of bearing that allows rotation in one direction while preventing rotation in the opposite direction. It essentially functions as a clutch, permitting free movement in one direction but locking or resisting movement in the reverse direction. 

 One-Way Bearings are designed to handle various types of loads and speeds, making them versatile for different applications: 

• Bicycles: In bicycles, one-way bearings are used in the freewheel mechanism, which allows the pedals to stay stationary while coasting. This lets the bike move forward while the pedals remain still. 
• Automotive Starter Motors: In automotive starter motors, one-way bearings ensure that the starter motor spins the engine in one direction but does not engage when the engine is running, preventing damage to the starter. 
• Clocks and Watches: In timepieces, one-way bearings help maintain the correct direction of movement for the gears and prevent backward motion. 
• Conveyor Systems: They are used in conveyor systems to allow the conveyor belt to move in one direction while preventing reverse movement that could cause jamming or damage.
