Structural Features of SKF Insert Bearings and Their Designation Codes

SKF insert bearings are designed based on sealed deep groove ball bearings of the 62 and 63 series. The difference is that they feature a convex outer ring and in most cases an extended inner ring equipped with a specific locking device, allowing quick and convenient mounting onto the shaft.

Ⅰ. How many types of SKF insert bearings are there? What letters correspond to different structures?

Insert bearings usually have a spherical outer surface and an extended inner ring, and use different types of locking devices. Different series of insert bearings are locked onto the shaft in different ways:

  • Insert bearing with set screws
① Extended inner ring on one side: bearing series YAT 2 and UC
② Extended inner ring on both sides: bearing series YAR 2
    ③ Seals on both sides:
The YAT 2 series uses reinforced standard seals on both sides (standard sealing).
The YAR 2 series bearings are equipped with reinforced standard seals and additional pressed steel flingers.
  • Insert bearings with an eccentric locking collar
① Extended inner ring on one side: bearing series YET 2
② Extended inner ring on both sides: bearing series YEL 2
    ③ Seals on both sides:
The YET 2 series uses reinforced standard seals on both sides (standard sealing).
The YEL 2 series bearings are equipped with reinforced standard seals and additional pressed steel flingers.
  • Insert bearings with a tapered bore
① Insert bearings with symmetric extended inner rings and tapered bore (1:12): bearing series YSA 2.
② They are mounted using the following locking collars:
    H 23 series for metric shafts;
HA 23 and HE 23 for imperial shafts
③ Both sides are equipped with reinforced standard seals and additional pressed steel flingers (standard seals with added flingers).
  • SKF ConCentra insert bearings
① Symmetrically extended inner ring on both sides: bearing series YSP 2
② Both sides are equipped with reinforced standard seals and additional pressed steel flingers (standard seals with added flingers).
  • Insert bearings with a standard inner ring
① Except for the spherical (convex) outer surface, the dimensions and characteristics are identical to those of the 62 and 63 series deep groove ball bearings: bearing series 17262 and 17263.
    ② Seals on both sides:
Standard nitrile rubber contact seals (RS1 seals, suffix 2RS1)
Reinforced standard seals (standard sealing, suffix 2RS1/VP274)

Ⅱ.Meaning of SKF insert bearing designation.

The SKF insert bearing designation consists of a prefix + basic designation + suffix, used to describe the bearing’s specific structure, dimensions, seals, lubrication, tolerances, and other characteristics.

① The prefix is used to distinguish the basic type of the insert bearing and its locking device.

② The basic designation is usually a combination of numbers, indicating the width series and diameter series.

③ The suffix is used to specify additional features such as seals, internal clearance, cage type, material, and other special attributes.
